| 2012 Robert Ruark Essay Contest |
The Robert Ruark Society has been advised the 2012 Robert Ruark Essay Award will be presented at the UNC-CH English Department's Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 25, at 3:30 PM at Wilson Library. A brief meeting of the Society will be held afterwards at The Carolina Inn Bar. Society members are invited. Refreshments are "Dutch."

The Robert Ruark Society of Chapel Hill is offering a $1,000 award - named for novelist-journalist Robert Ruark (UNC Chapel Hill, journalism, Class of 1935) - for the best non-fiction work on the natural life and history of North Carolina by a UNC Chapel Hill undergraduate.
Included would be topics related to wildlife (flora and/or fauna) and life in the field (camping, hiking, boating, fishing, hunting, and so on). Travel Narrative, personal essay, historical exploration - all welcome.
- Deadline: 12 Noon, Monday, March 26, 2012
- One entry per student
- Length: up to 5,000 words
- One (1) copy double-spaced typescript (12 pt.)
Submit all manuscripts, complete with contact information to Greenlaw 229, Anita Braxton
The winning essay writer will receive a $1,000 prize! Robert Ruark originally envisioned the writers award when he visited The University of North Carolina in the 1950's. The Society is continuing his vision by sponsoring the Award in conjunction with the UNC Creative Writing Program.
The Robert Ruark Society plans to publish the winning essay online if a copy is provided in digital or pdf format. Individuals who are selected as winners are urged to submit an electronic copy of their essay, along with a bio document to the Society for online publication on this site.
